Was it the Coca-Cola Castle where they present shows? This last one was Aladino if I recall correctly…

Amazing!!!!! A liberated Mennonite looking for interaction in Xmatkil… insane concept. But who else could she have found that would have been able to get her to reveal her true identity. She was walking around in her undercover outfit and maybe assumed you were also a liberated Mennonite out purchasing goodies at the fair.

Beryl, This is a wonderfully engaging article, fasinating to me. You know that my paternal heritage and name -Klassen, is Mennonite don’t you? I know quite a bit about the history, which you related well. Though I didn’t know that the Amish split from the M’s. I know more about current denominations, politics and contradictions in current Mennonite world as in Minnesota. ….. Anyway love your writing, you’re perfect for it. Jane

You did it again, Beryl! Absolutely lovely, informative, and in some ways touching report.

I have met Menonites and Amish communites in Belice.Paraguay and elsewhere in Latin America, and I never managed to strike a conversation with the people, although I did try, amongst other by greeting them in German (a dialect of which is their “lingua franca”). Perhaps it was because they correctly identify me as being a Latin American, and incorrecttly suppose me to a “Papist”, that is a Catholic and therefore potentially an enemy..

What a shame that religion creates barriers between people..

I love them all, well, nearly all.
