After several proofreads, input from seven readers, and extensive re-writing, this thing is, I think, done. I sent it over to Josh yesterday for “typesetting.” If he agrees, I would like it in Bookman font.
I added a bunch of photos to it. I figure, it’s electronic – why not? Mostly shots of Merida, the Hotel Caribe, Chichen Itza, and some people.
I love the name. It came through a process of suggestions and consensus.
As soon as it’s typeset, it goes online, so look on Amazon for Beryl Gorbman – that should do it.
I’ve been nervous about letting it out of my hands. I am permanently giving up my privacy, if I ever had any. There is a link to this website at the end of the book, so if anyone cares, they can come here and read about all my insecurities and doubts. It is weird to think I’ll have a rash of Google listings, etc.
Now I have to focus on publicizing this book. I have already had consent from several 2012-oriented websites to list it, and of course it will be purchasable from this site with a link to Amazon. And I’ll see what is involved with selling it through Barnes and Noble, Google Books, etc. I think there are huge lists I can buy to send the announcement out to. Not sure I want to do that, though.
I expect the book will sell more as time goes by and people get more interested in the 2012 phenomenon. I hope so.
Is e-book self-publishing? I guess it is, but I don’t have to pay a “publisher” to print hardcopies that go through stores. E-books are gaining enormously in popularity, which surprises me. I wouldn’t have thought that so many people would enjoy reading from a machine.
And by the way, I’m now officially a publisher. If anyone wants to e-publish, you can go through my company, Intelligent Life. We can furnish ISBNs, copyrights, cover design, typesetting and proofreading. There are a lot of companies doing this, of course, but we have the coolest name. Wouldn’t you like to be published by a company called Intelligent Life?
