Too Hot to Research

I know my blog has been different the last few weeks – lots of words and few photos. It is simply too hot to go adventuring and photographing, but I’ll be back out there as soon as the weather lightens up a bit.

I’m planning to do a series of articles about the Merida Market, which operates on many levels. I’m hoping to have a good map done. If you know of one that exists, please let me know.

Lately I’ve been interested in not only the products for sale at the market, but the skills and crafts you can find there. Goldworkers, who can make what you design, a young woman who makes inexpensive but truly beautiful rings, smiths and all kinds of metalworkers, non-”artistic” carvers, shoemakers, etc. I’m not talking about “artsenias,” but people who make things for everyday use.

I am looking forward with great anticipation to the series on the market. I had a great time wandering through it this year and realize now after looking at Google Street View that we only made it to a small part. It was also early afternoon and most of the meat vendors were gone. This will make interesting reading for me so I can study up for next March!
