Who Is Donald Trump, Anyway?

Reading his bio facts online, my favorite item is that he was sent as punishment to a military school when he was 13 as his behavior was unmanageable. He had been attending the Kew-Forest School in Queens, along with several of his siblings, and was expelled. DT’s father described him as a difficult child.

Donald’s father was a real estate developer from Queens, NY and DT worked for him for six years, then made his first solo acquisition starting his rise (?) to riches and stardom.

Dozens of the companies and buildings that bear his name are not, in fact, his, nor does he hold any financial interest in them. They are owned by other entities who PAY him to use his name. Perhaps they feel that gives them prestige.

David Letterman has banned Trump from The Late Show because of his recent racist activities. Letterman says, “It’s all fun, it’s all a circus, it’s all a rodeo, until it starts to smack of racism. And then it’s no longer fun.”

Trump has represented himself as a Catholic, Episcopalian, Presbyterian, and as a Lutheran at different times. His daughter Ivanka was in the process of converting to Judaism several years ago.

He is rumored, like a wealthy predecessor, not to shake hands because of germs.

In 1989, the economic situation brought Trump to declare business bankruptcy. He was also at the brink of personal bankruptcy. In 1992 the Trump Plaza Hotel filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy.

In January 2002, the Securities and Exchange Commission brought a financial-reporting case against Trump Hotels & Casino Resorts Inc., alleging that it had committed several “misleading statements in the company’s third-quarter 1999 earnings release.” The matter was settled with the defendant neither admitting nor denying the charge.

Direct from Wikipedia:

Trump has been caught in the 2008 financial crisis as sales for his Trump International Hotel and Tower in Chicago have been lagging. Lender Deutsche Bank refused to let Trump lower the prices on the units to spur sales.[58] Arguing that the financial crisis and resulting drop in the real estate market is due to circumstances beyond his control, he invoked a clause in the contract to not pay the loan.[58] Deutsche Bank then noted in court that ‘Trump is no stranger to overdue debt’ and that he has twice previously filed for bankruptcy with respect to his casino operations.[58] Trump then initiated a suit asserting that his image had been damaged. Both parties have since agreed to drop their suits, and sale of the units is nearly complete. [59]
On February 17, 2009 Trump Entertainment Resorts filed for Chapter 11 Bankruptcy; Trump having stated on February 13 that he would resign from the board.

In 2007, Forbes evaluated Trump’s net worth at $3 billion. However, business writer Timothy O’Brien estimated Trump’s work at $250 million. Trump sued him for libel and lost the lawsuit. Deutsche Bank estimated his worth at $588 million, to which Trump objected vehemently.

Trump is connected by actual partial ownership or use of his name to everything from casinos, to ice cream parlors to golf courses to real estate and on and on.

In 2009, perhaps reflecting his age, DT created The Trump Network, a marketing firm for vitamins that rejuvenate your energy level and help you lose weight.

  1. Estela Keim says:

While Barack Obama takes down one of the worst mass murderers of our time, Donald Trump fusses about Obama´s birthplace and college grades…talk about appropriate focusing and range of vision. That says it all about Mr. Trump.

  2. Jody says:

As a friend of mine (who is very bright and wise) said today, “I was just thinking — I’m glad we now have a President who is smarter than I am. I couldn’t do that job. And I can’t figure out why anyone would want a dumber-than-I-am President (like, for example, Palin or Trump).”

Pretty much sums it up for me, too.
